A short history of Balatonföldvár

The name "Földvár" is first found in documents from the 11th century, and later, in 1358, it was documented again. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the area consisted mainly of pastures and belonged to the settlement of Kőröshegy, located approximately three kilometers to the south.

The oldest building in the city was the Földvár Csárda, which supposedly operated from the middle of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. Later, this old building was demolished and a new, modern restaurant and small hotel was built in its place, which the Holovits family rented and developed it. In 1948, it became an independent independent settlement from Kőröshegy, after which continuous development took place, especially along the lake shore. Many hotels, corporate and private resorts, residential buildings, restaurants and shops have been built. In addition, an open-air stage, a cultural center and an open-air cinema were also created.

According to the most modern style of the time, the Hotel Festival was built in 1976, which consisted of two eight-story blocks. In 1985, Balatonföldvár became a large village, and in 1992 it received city status.
